This year, HCC established the Legacy Fund to secure the sustainability of the Higher Education Scholarship Program. The Higher Education Scholarship Program supports disadvantaged students for college, technical school or university, and the Legacy Fund aims to ensure ten new scholarships are offered every year.
For the next year, a family foundation has offer a 33% match for ALL donations up to a total of $1,000,000. HCC is seeking commitments from individual and corporate donors to help us make the most of this matching opportunity!

Higher Education Scholarship Program students in 2019.
History of the Higher Education Scholarship Program
Over the last 20 years we have watched as our students have grown from abandoned children to university students to empowered, self-reliant and engaged adults. HCC graduates are now giving back to their communities as nurses, engineers and even as founders of their own NGO, HCC-Nepal, which works to help children in the position they were once in. For marginalized youth in Nepal, a university education can mean the difference between extreme poverty and financial stability.
Despite the immense impact a university education can have, there are little to no funding options for impoverished students. Bank loans are only available against fixed assets or collateral and private sector scholarships nearly non-existent. It was with this in mind that HCC established the Higher Education Scholarship Program (HESP), officially launching the program this year.
Higher Education Scholarship Program provides university scholarships and are awarded based on need, academic merit and motivation to give back to society. Currently HESP supports six university students in diverse degrees, including physics, business, and medical sciences. Students are provided full academic scholarships and support to cover living costs. They are integrated in the HCC culture and community in Kathmandu, and receive counseling and mentorship to develop self-awareness, life-skills and talents. Additional leadership training and monthly community service requirements keeps students proactive in making the world around them a better place.
The ultimate goal is to provide 10 or more fully-funded scholarships per year to highly motivated students, but highly disadvantaged students, who would not otherwise have the opportunity to pursue their further education.
